Why Stinky?
At the end of a hard day at work! |
Let's get back to the Stinky bit. As she was pretty tiny, and we have two very obnoxious dogs, we kept Sam in the store just to keep her safe. We gradually introduced her to the canines and she eventually became boss of the universe, where she still reigns supreme. So, first thing in the morning, we would go into the shop and say, "Where's my stinky little cat?" And she would come running. And she would foof just to show us why she deserved the name Stinky. But, we still called her Sam. When she was about 4 or 5 months old, Mr Knits said to Emma (who had just rolled in something unmentionable as dogs are wont to do) "You are a stinky fatty pants dog." And Stinky, er I mean Sam, came running!
As a joke, and you know jokes often backfire, we would call "Hey, Stinky!" And every time, the little puff ball would come running into the room.We would show customers how the sweetest little kitten would answer to Stinky but not Sam. By the time she was 6 months old, that's all we called her. She no longer responded to Sam. A few customers, who knew her from the time we adopted her, still call her Sam. But call her Stinky - and you have a friend for life.
(I have to add this as an afterthought....one day a little girl asked why we called the cat Stinky. And we told her because she foofed a lot. The little girl thought about this for a few seconds, and then said, "Oh, you mean she farts?" Out of the mouths of babes, I tell you, out of the mouths of babes.)
