Visitors

On Saturday, my brother and his four children came up for a impromptu visit - Liv 14, Liam 7, and the twins Chris and Shane 5. I don't know how Randy does it - four kids all needing attention all at the same time. I forgot how busy little boys can be.

Liam's first comment when he came into the yarn shop was that I sure had a lot of string. He is so serious it's  cute! Randy had to pop over to the grocery store to get some supplies, so the kids hung out with me in the shop. The twins immediately settled down and played with the Fisher Price Farm I have on hand for customer's kids, Liv got busy making beautiful friendship bracelets, and Liam helped me straighten up. Then I asked him if he wanted to wind some yarn.

I think I need a seven year old boy to work in the shop part time. He did a great job. I believe over 10 balls were wound with a little help from Chris and Shane.

Once we all arrived at our home, pandolerium ensued. Toys had to be retrieved from the car, the kids had to check out the cabin. It's a challenge to keep track of three active boys. They couldn't quite grasp the concept we had a house and a cottage on the same lot and asked a lot of questions about it. I mean a lot of questions . Apparently, you have to drive a long time to get to a cottage and we only had to walk across the driveway.

After the initial craziness, they all found something to do and the adults were able to chat and get dinner ready. As the next day, November 7th,  would have been the children's mother's 46th birthday, we remembered Jackie with a birthday cake and a singing of Happy Birthday. The twins were just 10 months old when their mom passed away - Liam was almost 3 and Liv was just 10. It was a very sad time. But, thankfully, they are all doing well now.

Since I don't get to see them very often, I suggested to Liv on the drive home we have a Christmas in July weekend to celebrate everyone's birthday, Christmas, Easter, New Year's, Thanksgiving and Canada Day. The little boys thought it was a great idea and talked about it for most of the evening, making plans of what they were going to do. So, plans are underway now to make sure every major holiday is given its due next July.

The kids were impressed with the sofa beds and wanted to go to bed. Yes, they wanted to go to bed! All three boys hopped into the one sofa bed and immediately settled down to sleep, all the while Mr Knits and Randy were playing guitar in the same room. I tell you, those kids are magic. Liv was adorable too. She certainly has grown up to be a lovely young woman.

Sadly, I had to cut my visit short with them as I had plans the next day, but watch out for some excitement up this way next July. If all goes as planned, Santa will be arriving to fireworks and you may even see the Easter Bunny hopping down the trails.

By the way, is the time change killing you? Being an early riser the change to daylight time is a breeze, instead of getting up around 5:30am I get up at 6:30 am - a much more civilized hour. But now, I'm so tired - I wake up at 4 am or so which is 5 am daylight time, and try unsuccessfully to go back to sleep. By 8 pm I am ready for bed, but I know if I do go to bed, then I'll be up again at 4 am. I don't ever remember being so bothered by the time change....must be one of the effects of getting old. Not that I'm getting old. Just a little bit older is all. And I keep telling myself, and that old woman in the bathroom mirror the same thing.
