Free Pattern Phursday - Three

Whaddayaknow - three weeks in a row!

Now that our hands and neck are warm, lets get our feet covered. This pattern is also a vintage one, that can be updated to look - well, almost sexy. Knit them up in black, put pink ribbons through the eyelets and there you go.

Last night I knit a pair in white Baby Monkey and ice blue soy silk/wool blend. OMG - they are so soft! Of course, the cameras are at work, so no photos until later this morning.

Here it is....the mate needs to be sewn up.

Elizabeth - Lace up Slippers:

Size: one size fits most

Materials and equipment:
Yarn: 1 skein Schoeller + Stahl Wonderwool  each in two contrasting colours,
any soft chunky weight yarn will do
                                6.5mm needles
                                Stitch marker
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
                                Optional : crochet hook 6.5mm

Notions: Ribbon for laces if desired

Pattern instructions:
Cast on 56 stitches and knit across
Row 2: Turn. K across the first 18 stitches, pm, then purl across
Row 3: (eyelet row) Turn. (k2, YO, K2tog) to marker. Knit remaining stitches
Row 4: Turn. K to marker, then purl across.
Row 5: Turn. Drop MC and join CC. K across
Row 6: Turn. With CC, knit across
Row 7: Turn. Drop CC, Knit across with MC
Row 8: Turn. Knit across with MC
Rows 9 – 35: Repeat rows 5 to 8.
Row 36: Cut CC, leaving 10” tail. With MC: Turn, K across first 18 stitches, pm then purl across
Row 37: (eyelet row) Turn. (K2, YO, k2tog) to marker. Knit remaining stitches
Row 38: Turn. K to marker, remove marker, then purl across
Row 39: Turn. BO loosely. Leave a 16” tail for seaming and break yarn.
Using the tapestry needle and with wrong side facing, insert needle into the first stitch on the opposite corner of the toe. Weave the yarn in and out through the ends of each row. Then pull tightly so the toe closes. Then seam the first 18 stitches together. Finish off and weave in ends.

Laces – You can either use 60” of ribbon for each of the laces, or crochet a 60” length of chain stitch. Weave in the laces as you would do for shoelaces starting at the bottom eyelets and working your way up the slipper socks.

These make great gifts - you can almost knit a pair in an evening. No shaping involved either. Just a mostly garter stitch rectangle with a short seam. They look great knit in Kertzer's Marble Chunky - and I think you can get 2 pairs from one ball. I'll have to ask Joan - she made them last year for her grandaughters.  See you next week.
