You just had to be there...

On Sunday, Betty D and I were planning to go to Diamond Yarns in Montreal, but we both decided it was just too far to go. So we went to another French town – Belleville. Okay, so it’s not in Quebec, but the name is French. Get it – belle ville?

I was on a mission to get a rhinestone zipper, and knew I could get one at Fabricland. And yes, I got one, and about 30 metres of upholstery fabric. The fabric is now stored at Betty’s as I’m not planning to work on the sofas until the new year. (Actually I wanted to do them today, but apparently Betty has other things to do.) If Mr Knits knew I had the fabric he’d be asking me “Are they done yet?” and “When are you planning to cover the couches…?” That’s why the fabric is stored at Betty’s. Good thing Mr Knits doesn’t read the blog. He’d know what I was up to, wouldn’t he.

In Dollarama, we went hunting for Christmas decorations, which we found. But I also found a Happy Bunny bank that had me in stitches. I only wish they had three of them. If you only knew how appropriate these banks are for my boys.
The bank says "I try to be good, but I take after my mom!"
When my boys were little, I thought it was important for them to know how to accept a compliment graciously. So whenever they were told they were the cutest, sweetest, most intelligent boys (which they were!) they responded, “Thank you, I take after my mommy”.  I only had to teach the oldest one to say that because the other two just figured that’s what you say when someone says something nice. It was hilarious! You should have seen some of the reactions we got. Especially from the church ladies.  Priceless, I tell you.

Back to Belleville and why you just had to be there. Betty D and her knitting aren’t usually too far apart and Sunday was no different. She was knitting something for her daughter in law and had put it down when we got to our first stop. On the way to the second store, I was admiring the yarn and the addi Lace needles on the dashboard, and thinking how smart Betty was to use those needles for that project. And the knitting remained on the dashboard for three more stops – there just wasn’t enough knitting time between stops to make it worthwhile. However, when we were getting back into the car after some extreme shopping in the Quinte Mall, she exclaimed “Where’s my knitting? ” I told her that her knitting  was right there on the dash. She said, "No it's not, it's all over the parking lot!" And when I looked, she was right - there was about 20 feet of yarn on the ground outside the passenger door. Being the clever girls we are, we followed the yarn and discovered the knitting wasn't inside the car on the dash - it was outside under the windshield wiper!

We surmised that the knitting fell out of the car at our first stop at Liquidation World, and some kind soul picked it up put itcarefully  secured it under the wiper and wound the excess yarn around the side mirror. We had been driving around Belleville with the knitting outside of the car all day!

It doesn't sound so funny when telling the story, but trust me, it was funny. We laughed until we hurt. And then we went home. It had been a long day.
