Have socks, will travel

Yesterday Lynn and I loaded up my car with sample socks, yarns, needles, books and headed off to Eganville for a toe up sock class for the Eganville KnitWhits. We had a great day for travel, and even though I thought we were lost, we weren't. Arriving right on time, we were greeted by Megan's son and her charming dog, Russell.

Seven eager knitters arrived shortly thereafter, and we got down to the business of sock making. But first, I did a little demonstration on magic loop knitting and stressed the importance of making a swatch. Ah, that usually falls on deaf ears, but not this time.

In the past, I have allowed up to an hour to teach the Judy's magic cast on. This group was amazing - after about 15 minutes everyone had figured it out, and were already knitting in the round. Making the toe increases was no problem for this group, and the foot knitting went quickly. Once the gusset increases were done, there was a bit of consternation about the holes made when doing the short rows. I kept assuring them not to worry, but until you have done one of these heels, you can't help but worry. And weren't they pleased when the holes disappeared, and they began to go round the heel turn and make the heel flap. The cuff was then finished and the little sock bound off using Jeny's stretchy bind off. Seven cute little socks were finished by 4:00 pm.

What a great class. I had such fun! Thanks to Megan for hosting the class, and thanks to all the knitters - Wei Ling, Paula, Katherine (sp?), Christina, Donna, and Stephanie. I hope to see you all again soon!

Hi Nancy, I had a great time too. I'm trying to make my Ella a pair of socks but my math seems off. Do you have some time to help.
