Yarn Names
On the way home from the store last night, I was telling Mr Knits I had to get dyeing again - I have 8 (yikes!) special orders that I have to get working on, plus spring will be here sooner than I think.
Anyway, it got me to thinking about the packaging and naming of the yarn. I've not been happy with either and in a moment of brilliance a fabulous idea of how to do it came to me. Actually, we were in the back of the Petro Canada station picking up our mail when it came to me. Not the most inspiring place to get an idea, but I'll take it wherever I can get it. Getting inspired while on a winter's night walk sounds so much more romantic though. Sitting looking at the recently moved mailboxes? Not so romantic.
It's a concept so simple, I can't believe no one out there has done it before! So, I am not going to reveal it here, at least not right now. I am trying to get in touch with a young graphic designer I know to have her design the labels, and as soon as that's done I will do the unveiling here first. I have an idea of how I want it to look; I just hope I can convey it to her.
Now that I've got that sorted out in my mind, and my health is back, I can't wait to get dyeing again. First job into the pot is Blue Faced Leicester worsted and roving for a custom dye job (for thrummed mitts). Then, some sock yarns for a few customers. Then, and only then, will I allow myslf to start creating new colourways for the spring and summer season. This year, I will be offering more than just sock and thrummed mitten yarn - look for baby, sweater, and outerwear yarns too in a variety of natural fibres. I will continue to have hand dyed spinning and needle felting fibres as well. And all will have their clever new name and packaging.
It's so nice to be all inspired again. It's been a while!
