Free Pattern Phursday - Eleven

As promised, here is the matching mitten for the Mohair Hat from last week. I love these mittens. I love how soft mohair is, how light it is and especially how warm it is. Thanks to the larger needles, these are a really quick knit. After this past weekend where the temperature dropped to 34 degrees below zero, I know I shall be knitting a few more pairs.

Mittens – Make 2
JJ's Montage Mohair, 100 grams - 200 yards makes both hat and mittens. I
overdyed the yarn with Jacquard Acid dyes to make this lovely camouflage
green. The mittens are knit back and forth with a side seam.

Gauge is 14 stitches to 4 inches, use the needle size that gives you this gauge.
I used 5.5 mm bamboo needles.

Using 5.5mm single pointed needles, cast on 32 stitches. Work in k2, p2 rib for
12 rows. Beginning with knit row, work 4 rows stocking stitch.

Thumb:  Slip the 10 stitch on the stitch holder onto the 5.5mm needle,. Pick
up 1 stitch at each end of the needle to close up the gap. Knit in stockinette
stitch for approximately 2.5  inches. Knit 2 together across the next row - 6
stitches left. Break yarn. Thread the yarn end through the remaining 6
stitches.  Draw up tightly and secure end.

Sew up side seam , thumb seam and weave in ends.
