Free Pattern Phursday - Ten
Here's a quick garter stitch hat, knit sideways allowing you to practice your short row shaping.
JJ's Montage Mohair, 100 grams - 200 yards makes both hat and mittens. I overdyed the yarn with Jacquard Acid dyes to make this lovely camouflage green.
Gauge is 14 stitches to 4 inches, use the needle size that gives you this gauge. I used 5.5 mm bamboo needles.
Hat is made of 4 wedges, using short rows for shaping.
Using 5.5 mm single pointed needles, cast on 38 stitches. Knit one row.
Begin shaping as follows;
Row 1: Knit 32 stitches, turn work, slip first stitch and knit to end of row.
Row 2: Knit 30 stitches, turn work, slip first stitch and knit to end of row.
Row 3: Knit 28 stitches, turn work, slip first stitch and knit to end of row.
Row 4: Knit 26 stitches, turn work, slip first stitch and knit to end of row.
Row 5: Knit 24 stitches, turn work, slip first stitch and knit to end of row.
Row 6: Knit 22 stitches, turn work, slip first stitch and knit to end of row.
Row 7: Knit 20 stitches, turn work, slip first stitch and knit to end of row.
Row 8: Knit 22 stitches, turn work, slip first stitch and knit to end of row.
Row 9: Knit 24 stitches, turn work, slip first stitch and knit to end of row.

One wedge completed. Continue, beginning with row one to make three more wedges. When you reach the final row do not cast off, but graft two edges together. Weave in ends.
