Lost and found

The holiday season has come and gone, and I can hardly remember any of it! That flu I had was merciless, but I can now say I’m past the worst of it. Why just yesterday I stayed awake and vertical all day! For the past two weeks I had been sleeping most of the day and night, and walking from the bedroom to the bathroom was exhausting.  Thankfully, I’m much better.

Last night Mr Knits and I decided to have a prime rib roast for dinner, with little bitty roast potatoes (for Mr Knits) and baked potatoes (for me), turnip, and a salad. The whole meal was scrumptious. Best of all was the bottle of 2006 Beaujolais Villages that was a gift to me a few years ago that I had tucked away in my closet for some special occasion. And....I forgot about it.

Mr Knits was installing a light fixture in our bedroom yesterday and had to empty my closet to get at the wiring, and there he found my little stash. In addition to a few bottles of wine there were 3 bottles of Bailey’s Irish Cream.  Looks like I won’t be having a Bailey’s emergency any time soon.  Getting back to the wine – it was awesome.

Speaking of forgetting things, I was laying awake in bed on Thursday night feeling a little hurt that Mr Knits hadn’t said he liked some of the Christmas gifts I got for him. Sure, he loved the PS3 his sons and I gave him along with our favourite game Buzz trivia, and he really did like the automatic watch winder too. But, he didn’t mention the heated seat cushion I got for Digger Dan, nor any of the silly things that we get for each other each year. We have this tradition of spending about $20 on useful gag gifts for each other.  One year I got an iron ($8) and an electric can opener ($5) that he got from the clearance section in Zeller’s. We still use the can opener 14 years later.

This year I got him a Flush Light ( a toilet flush apparatus with a night light that lights up the toilet bowl),

some tarp handlers,

a flashlight for his cell phone,

 and the aforementioned heated seat.
All of this came from the surplus section at Princess Auto for less than $20. Anyway, as I was saying, I was a little hurt he hadn’t mentioned any of them again. And for good reason – I had forgotten to give them to him!
Friday morning I sat him down in front of the fireplace and apologized for being such a dizzy bat and gave him his gifts. He loved them! Especially the toilet flusher light thing. It's too bad I had  forgotten about them, I know his family would have enjoyed watching him opening them too.

I have learned my lesson - wrap all gifts as soon as they are purchased and put them under the tree immediately.  We'll see if I remember this lesson next December, won't we?
