First finished object of 2011!

I cast on this little neckpiece yesterday morning (January 1), and I just finished weaving in the ends. I think I love it!
It's made in one piece - cast on a bunch of stitches, knit 10 rows, cast off most of the stitches, knit to the end of the row, cast on a bunch of stitches - repeat this 7 times, weave in the ends, and it's done.

The pattern is by Kirsten Johnstone, and is available here on ravelry. If there ever was a good reason to get a free ravelry account, this would be it!

I used one 125 gram skein of Butterfly Super 10 and had leftovers, so my best guess to yardage is approximately 210 metres.

I experimented with different stretchy cast on and bind offs. I found that Jeny's Stretchy bind off worked the best, only I used a crochet hook instead of a knitting needle (it's a whole lot faster!). For the cast on, I tried several - I did a long tail cast on, a backward loop (as recommended in the pattern), then I was fooling around with the backward loop cast on, and came up with a cross between the German Twisted Cast on and the backward loop. It's fast, very stretchy, and very very tidy. It would make a great cast on for top down socks, it's that stretchy. Come into the shop and I will be glad to show you how! In the meantime, I will attempt to take appropriate photos to show how it's done. Maybe Mr Knits will help me out on this project today. He's burning a pizza in the oven right now, so it may not be the best time to ask!
