When does the time go?

Seriously - it seems like I just finished my last post a few days ago, and it's been 2 weeks!

The shop has been quite busy, actually busier than I expected for this time of year. Usually, the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend is my busiest Saturday of the year, however, this year the bustle started on Thursday, and continued right until yesterday. Who knows what today will bring? Strangely, the biggest seller is still the Butterfly Super 10 mercerized cotton from Kertzer. (Two years ago I couldn't give it away!) Last January, interest in it picked up, and I am ordering boxes of it each week now. Just yesterday, more than 30 skeins left the shop for their new homes. Go figure.

Right now, it's about 4:00 am and I couldn't sleep. So, I decided to do a load of laundry. This is turning out to be a bad idea. Our front loader sometimes is very quiet and you wouldn't know it was on. But no, not this morning! When it spins, it's shaking the whole house. I've tried rearranging the load to no avail. Sure hope Mr Knits can sleep through the earthquake.

New stuff in the shop includes a lovely Silk Tweed in three natural colours - Earth, Water, and Fire.

I have made a lovely pair of top down mittens using one strand of the Silk Tweed, with one strand of Ovation (kid mohair and silk). The ends need weaving in, and the buttons sewn on and they will be done.

Also, new in the shop is 400 gram balls (almost a pounder!) of 100 per cent variegated cotton Barroco in seven colours - three shown here.

Priced at $12 per 452 metre ball, this is a great yarn for knitting dishcloths, weaving, macrame (!). Trust me, it says macrame on the ball. That reminds me, I need to order t-pins.

In class news, there will be a dyeing workshop held on Saturday October 30th from 11 until 2. Wear comfortable clothing you don't mind if it gets stained. Cost of the workshop is $35, plus materials (yarn ranges in price from $6 to $20, roving starts at $3 per ounce). Class is limited to 4 people.

The Feed Your Creativity workshops (free with the purchase of the FYC kits) are ongoing on Saturdays and Wednesday evenings. Book your time when you purchase your kit.

See the in store display for kit colours, patterns and details. These kits make great gifts for your knitter friends. Each comes in a nice zippered pouch with enough yarn for the project and detailed instruction on the technique used and the pattern.

Lynn and I have just two weeks left of our weaving class. I think we have figured out weaving is not for us. However, we both have rigid heddle looms, and want to weave thicker yarns, and we think that might just be the issue. We are using threads thinner than an ant's eyelash, and it takes forever to weave just an inch of cloth. With knitting or crocheting, you can see your progress by the amount of work hanging from the needles; with weaving it all gets wound up on the winding up rod thing so you can't tell how much you've done. I have been known to unwind the wound up stuff though. Then I get all depressed because the piece is only about 12 inches long, and seriously, I've been weaving for hours! Maybe it is my choice of colour (pink and orange) that I don't like - buy how can one not like pink and orange? Lynn chose sage green and cream - her work so far is sooooo pretty. It has been fun making the trek to Barry's Bay each Monday. We do live in a beautiful area of the province.

I think I have blathered on long enough for one morning. It's time to put the laundry into the dryer. Let's home that the drying is quieter than the washing. (And no, Mr Knits did not wake up! Thank goodness. He's grumpier than a hibernating bear if he's disturbed in the morning.)
