Thelma and Louise - The Sequel
Actually, it was just Lynn and I. We went to the Creativ Festival in Toronto today to see the latest and greatest in the needlework, scrapbooking, quilting and knitting world. What a total disappointment. We walked every inch of the darned show and it took less than TWO hours. That included about a 20 minutes stop at MacFabric's booth where I got 2 yards of the most fabulous orange silk for the paltry sum of $14. It is gorgeous. We also stopped for some time at Stonehouse Publications and perused their damaged magazines. A few magazines might have fallen into our bags - I'm not sure. This show was about one fourth of the size of the Creativ Festival that is held in the spring. The wonderful folks at Kertzer provided us with complementary tickets, thank goodness. Although we did score some cool items, like the Rowenta Travel iron for $45, this show gets a 4 thumbs down from us.
Having driven three and a half hours to get to the show, and being finished by 1:30 pm did leave us with some time for well deserved retail therapy at the Shops on Don Mills. Now that was fun. First stop was Bath and Body Works (some hand soap in a pumpkin and ghost pump bottle, a spider bath scrubbie and an skull snd crossbones embroidered bag
came home with me), followed by Roots, Browns Shoes, Coach, Teaopia, BCBG (they had a $148 capelet sort of thing that one could knit from 3 $10 skeins of Baby Monkey) and Anthropoligie. Anthropoligie has an online store that is fun to look at, but the store is just wonderful. You know those neckwarmers we made earlier this year - well they have them knit in acrylic selling for $39! And a fun fur type of hat for $72!
We had a delicious luunch at South St Burger. Mmmm, wasabi mayonaisse is the best. Then we headed for home. But not before stopping at our favourite store - Dollarama. I got 8 long silky black wigs for my hairless styrofoam heads for $2 each. I love that store.
But, the most fun we had was what I like to call "Highway Games". I'm not sure if it's legal, but here's the scenario. An inconsiderate driver is following too closely with their high beams on. I adjust my side mirrors so the headlights don't blind me. The inconsiderate driver backs off quickly. Why? Because the angle of my side mirrors reflect the light right back into his/her eyes. Now, I figured this little game out a few years ago quite by accident and I have become quite adept at adjusting the mirrors quickly. Often, within 15 seconds or so, the driver figures out his high beams are on and shuts them off, and I readjust my mirrors to the correct position. Today, we played Highway Games three times. Twice on the 401 - why would anyone have their high beams on there? - and once on Highway 37. I won the game each time.
(I was reading over this post before publishing it, and found a few errors. One that made me laugh was I typed "headlights don't blond me" instead of blind me. Fixed the error but had to share it. You know, they say brunette hair is just articificial intelligence, FYI I did NOT spell Creativ wrong. That's how the show spells it. Really.)
