What do knitters love just as much as yarn?

Knitting Books! Yup, we love our books, don't we? At TNNA, book signings are held and we get to meet the authors while getting our books signed. It's like meeting the Meryl Streeps and Julia Roberts of the knitting world. The famous superstars like Nicki Epstein,

Mags Kandis (a local girl from the Quinte area) , Wendy Johnson of toe up sock fame

and Trisha Malcolm were signing along with the new rising stars. Crochet books were available - Doris Chan was just so outgoing and charming - she was delightful  And ever so clever. She got her friends to model the garments from the book while we were standing in line. The lines are sometimes quite long, and while chatting with fellow shop owners is fun, getting to see the finished garments was wonderful.

Most of the books are brand new releases - like the Vogue Stitionary - Lace, which is 5th in the series. Trisha Malcolm, editor of Vogue, joked that they are now calling the books the "Collectionary" with the addition of this latest edition. I have 3 of the other 4; I'm just missing the crochet book. Must add that to my list for my next book order.

Several sock book authors were signing this year. One book has stolen my heart - Two Socks at a time on One circular Needle by Melissa Morgan Oakes. Truly, this book has it all - different toe styles, different heel styles,  a variety of cast ons and bind offs. You can choose the techniques you like best, mix them all up and make your socks your way. To make it even better, the book is spiral bound.

Comfort Afghans by well known designer Norah Gaughan is a collection of - you guessed it - afghans knit with Comfort by Berroco. Comfort is a 50% microfibre 50% nylon yarn and is very reasonably priced in the $6 range. Her designs for Berroco are quite simply amazing. Check them out at Berroco.com - there are some free and some in books.

I did have a book named Dyeing Yarn and Fleece - but I seem to have lost it...and it was the one book I really really really wanted. I have ordered another but it won't be signed. I have the sad, I tell you, I have the sad.

Kristin Nicholas, who has been designing for years has a new book that teaches how to incorporate colour into your work.

Mags Kandis book, Gifted, is one of my favourite acquisitions this year. Sweet little knitted things that make lovely gifts. Some of them felted, some not. All adorable.

In all there are over 20 books in the shop just waiting for you to come in and look at. I have them all on one shelf in the white bookcase that I have moved in front of the metal monster aka the furnace.

Someof these books are not available  for sale yet - you can pre order them at the shop, and I will call you when they come in.  In the meantime, you can come in and drool (carefully please) over them. Hope to see you soon!
