What not to wear

Once again, Pinterest has provided me with a little bit of a giggle. Here's why:

Can you imagine

  1. the amount of time it took to knit and crochet the hat and scarf
  2. the number of ends that need to be woven in
  3. how much yarn and therefore how heavy this "outfit" must be
  4. how annoying having all those crocheted ball swinging around on your head
  5. how much nerve you would need to wear this in public or even to admit you made it?
My guess for the yarn amount is about 2100 grams or 21 100 gram balls of worsted weight yarn. Or about 5 pounds! The scarf seems to be knit/crocheted from two shades of green and probably used 600 grams of each colour and then the dangling fringe (look at the fringe handing down her back - it must be two feet long!) would take about 50 grams per colour and I can count 6 colours! So add another 300 grams. The hat probably used about 300 grams of each colour, plus the estimated 24 dangling balls.

My google fu is lacking in that I cannot find the original source for this photo, and a pattern (not that I really want the pattern; I'm just curious!) I shall not give up though...I will find it if it exists.

But, in all the googling I did find this sweet little Christmas themed hat and bootee set  - just click on this link http://www.p2designs.com/pdfs/hattreeelfsox.pdf

I might just upsize this one for my grand daughter. She would look so cute in it!
