Interrupted sleep
Last night, or actually early this morning, Mr Knits and I were all snuggled in our warm bed with our two cats and two dogs. We were all fast asleep. It was lovely. Then at precisely 2:18 am there was this ringing noise. At first I couldn't figure out what it was! You see, we had to buy new telephones in the fall after the last big electrical storm blew up our last set of phones (a regular occurrence here in the country), and I didn't recognize the ring tone.
Usually a phone call in the wee hours is not good news, and this one was no exception. Our security alarm at the store had been activated - we had an intruder! Yikes! The police were on their way, and we would be contacted if anything was wrong. I stayed up for a little while - until 3:30 am, and then went back to sleep. Only to be awakened at 4:08 am by the phone ringing again. Another alarm had been tripped - this time in a different part of the store. Mr Knits got up, got dressed and came down to the store to investigate.
And what did he find?
Little Miss Purrl has now figured out how to open a door knob! She had escaped from her luxury suite in the back room, and was having fun all by herself in the shop!
Our darling little Purrly Grrl does not get along with Stinky or Ella, and that's why she's staying at the store. We tried keeping her overnight in the renovated washroom, but that was a disaster, so we fixed up the back room (used to be my office) with a double bed, dresser, night table, little carpet, feeding dishes, litter box, her mohair shawl lined basket - all the essentials for a wee kitty. But it seems she doesn't like to be sequestered. I suppose the next thing we need to get are those white plastic door knob thingies parents of small kids put on the doors so the little ones can't escape in the middle of the night.
Let's just see how long it takes for Purrl to figure out those safety knob things!
