Knitter's Block
I've hit this wall before, and I don't like it. I just can't seem to figure out what I want to knit. I did finish the Whisper Lace Socks, and am quite pleased with them. They are knit in Classic Elite's Alpaca Sox on a 3.25mm needle, done toe up (I adjusted the pattern as it is a top down pattern). It's a free pattern on Ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/whisper-lace-socks
But now, nothing suits me. The socks on two needles - they are halfway through the heel shaping and put aside. The Ovation Kid Mohair and Silk shawl is on the 29th of 82 rows and, you guessed it, put aside. The baby surprise jacket is so close to being done is also put aside. It just needs a few more i cord pieces to make the frog closures which is probably about an hours work. Even John noticed I haven't been knitting lately.
Maybe tomorrow, someone will inspire me to knit again. I would like to start an Adult Surprise Jacket, but don't know what colour to make it. I was leaning towards purple Naturally Tussock as it is a firm plied, sturdy yarn which a garter stitch jacket needs. I have the pattern all set to go, including the gauge swatch. But then, I got an email yesterday with a reference to this pattern website: http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/kategori_oversikt.php and it has over 25,000! patterns ready for downloading. There are so many beautiful garments to choose from. Now, since the patterns have been translated from Norwegian (I believe) some of the wording is a little confusing but I'm sure all of you would be able to figure it out. Actually some of the wording is so precious, it makes me smile. The Drops/Garnstudio patterns are written so yarn substitution is quite easy.
And then, another email reminded me of this website: http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory.php It's a North American site with elevenbillionty free patterns nicely sorted into categories. These patterns have not all be tested as the Drops/Garnstudio patterns have.
And, no sooner did I publish this post, but I got the notification that the knitty.com spring edition is up! I love knitty.com as it's full of fabulous patterns, technique articles and more good stuff. They also have a "knitty spin" edition. Here's the link to the spring patterns http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring09/patterns.php
And, in typing spin - that reminded me I have a spinning instructor now so any of you who would like to learn to spin, email me and we'll set up a day and time. Wednesday and Thursday mornings are good as is all day Saturday. Let me know what's good for you.
I'm planning to go to Canada Blooms on Sunday the 22nd so if any of you would like to join me, we can car pool. I'd be leaving around 8 am to get to Toronto around 11 am and we'd be back by 9 pm.
Have a great week!
