Cheap Sunglasses...and more
This is a long promised post regarding my new prescription eyeglasses. Usually my glasses cost in the range of $400 to $500 a pair, which is a costly adventure when I lose them all the time. Rather, I misplace them, but it still is annoying.
So, early this winter I heard about buying eyeglasses online and thought I would try it. I went to my optometrist and had my eyes tested, and then when online shopping. The first site I tried was http://www.clearlycontacts.ca/ because they were Canadian, based in Richmond BC. My first pair cost me $44.34 delivered. These glasses included the UV protection, anti glare and anti scratch and hi index lenses. They're the glasses in the upper left hand corner. Then I absolutely needed some new sunglasses (I couldn't find mine) so I ordered the pair in the middle of the right had side of the photo. They cost me $80. Remember, these are prescription glasses. I ordered the first pair on a Tuesday and they arrived here on the Friday of the same week - 3 days! The sunglasses take about 2 weeks to arrive. These glasses also came in a lovely clamshell case, with cleaning cloth, screwdriver tool and little pouch to further protect the glasses. I would not be surprised if someone told me they had purchased the same eyeglasses at one of the big 1 hour glasses chain stores in the malls. They will remain unnamed as I am disgusted with the high cost of their glasses. I will give them absolutely no publicity - none! We have been gouged for eyeglasses long enough. If a company in Canada can make beautiful glasses for under $40 including shipping, why can't they? Robbers, they are.
But....then I discovered http://www.coastalcontacts.com/ the parent company of Clearly Contacts. They are based in Blaine Washington, and the glasses are so much cheaper. The purple pair (on the invoice) and red pair (upper right) cost me the grand total of $17 US - about $19 CAN! each and they arrived in 3 - 4 days. What intrigued me is I ordered from the US site, but the order is fulfilled by the Canadian site, and I saved more than $25 per pair.
But, online shopping has its perils, like more online shopping! I found a site http://www.zennioptical.com/ and ordered my last pair of glasses. The fabulous goggly sunglasses (middle left). They cost the princely sum of $21US, took two weeks to arrive from China, but are nowhere near the quality of the Coastal / Clearly Contacts glasses. The frames are not spring hinged, and are very plasticky feeling. The case is a throwaway white plastic thing (I have no idea where I put it!) The tint on these sunglasses give a reddish cast to everything, but for $21 I am not complaining. Besides, I look like a movie star in them!
A copy of my most recent invoice - $17.38! Try to enlarge it to see the cost of the glasses $6.95, plus $9 shipping.
Ordering these glasses is quite simple. If you need any help, just ask Dr. Nancy...she's (that's me) usually in attendance at Log Cabin Yarns from Tuesday until Saturday 10 am until 5 pm. If you come in with your prescription I will help you order them.
Enough of my ranting....here's my most recent side to side sock. I lurves this sock. Knit from Noro Kureyon sock yarn. I'm working on its mate at the moment, and then will scribble down the pattern. Actually it's already scribbled down, I'm just waiting for my secretary to type it up.

Finally, here's some yarn I dyed yesterday. The photo does not do it justice. But it is beautiful, colourful (in a very nice way), and the knitted swatch below shows off the colour without pooling or striping. I can't wait to try dyeing another skein to see if I can duplicate it. This skein will make the most gorgeous pair of socks. I think I'll make them in a lacy herringbone pattern to play off the colour, but not be boring to knit.
And, that's all I have to report today, my lovelies. I will be heading for TNNA next week and will bring back tons of goodies to show you. Take care!
