A New Look, perhaps?

Last evening, I was googling to find an illustration of a hawt female warrior who had knitting needles in her hair and a knitted chain mail vest. Alas, I couldn't find the source of that photo, but I did  find something else. A hair style from the 1940s that I think I'll try out. It's called "Bundles for Britain" - after the war effort that "Knitting for Britain" was a part. The hairdo represents a ball of yarn, and is held in place by knitting needles, announcing to the world this woman was in fact "knittin' for Britain".

I love this style for so many reasons. First, it would capture my longish hair up, and keep it off my neck. Secondly, it looks very elegant (something I'm not, but would so like to be) and give me a reason to wear my pearls. Lastly, I'd always know where my needles are. Alas, I prefer not to work with straight needles - I love circulars so some modifications would need to be made.

This hair style is from a time when circular needles weren't readily available, and the circs they had were simply horrible - a twisted wire cable joining two needles. Certainly not as flexible as our circs are today. Now imagine this hair style with a few sets of circs woven through it...especially some with the coloured cables from Addi and Chiaogoo. A few pretty little stitch markers and perhaps a fancy yarn cutter  or two would add some sparkle. (If I keep adding to the ornaments, a bag for my knitting notions would be totally unnecessary. And I probably wouldn't be able to hold up my head)

I'm not sure, but I think this style might just catch on again. Knitting is so fashionable now, isn't it.
