It's been a busy couple of weeks for us here in Northbrook; I'll try and capture it all now.

First, Fiona came to visit us - she was camping at Bon Echo for ten days, and when the weather was looking bad she'd come in and knit. We had a great time. Fi works at a yarn shop in Newmarket named Unwind, so she was quite an asset to me when the shop was full of people. While she was here, she knit this neckwarmer from a kit (it was supposed to be a scarf within a scarf) but I think this neckwarmer is so much nicer. She wove the silk scarf through the leaf stitch pattern to get the puffy effect. I have ordered more of the silk scarves so I can package up more of these kits.

I think is so beautiful!

My big project for the summer - the one I call "My Big Brother Project" is coming along nicely albeit slowly. 391 stitches on size 6 mm needles seems to take forever. Actually it takes about 18 minutes per row barring absolutely no mistakes, or intense dialogue on Big Brother. The rules of this annual event are simple - I can only work on it during the 3 hours per week big Brother is on, and I must work on it while Big Brother is on so the 3 hours is not totally wasted on trash television viewing. The project chosen is one I have had in my queue for about 3 years now, designed by the Nashua Design team, using Nashua Creative Focus Chunky and Painted Forest.

I know this Kimono Wrap Jacket will take me more than the designated 30 hours of television viewing, so I do occassionally knit it on the way to and from work. I get exactly 1 row done each way if I'm lucky.  I had no idea it required so much knitting. Eleven 100 gram balls of  chunky weight yarn and 4 balls of 50 grams bulky really shouldn't take this long. I think it's the physical moving the stitches along the cable that is taking up the time.

There are fifteen pattern repeats of which this is one. Being less that halfway through at this point of the summer means unless I cheat and knit on it more often, it won't be done. So, I'm cheating. A lot.

This photo shows almost the whole thing. I should have stood on a chair to shoot it. I've checked all over Ravelry and the net to find a photo of a finished one to link to, but haven't found one yet. I'll scan the photo from the pattern book once I get to work and post it here.   photo has been inserted above.

Finally, there's a exciting new program starting at the shop called Feed Your Creativity from Kollage Yarns. I have the complete starter kit already in the store with the patterns and yarns for all ten projects. Of course, I didn't take photos of the kits so I can't post them yet. But I will. I promise.

Talk to you soon.
