How arresting

Yesterday, Lynn and I set out for the USA to pick up yet another yarn shipment from Kollage Yarns (the shipment is still in the trunk of my car - unopened). Usually, at the US Border, I get some entertainment value as a reward for the wait and yesterday was no exception.

Choosing which line to get into is serious business and you really have only a few seconds to make your choice, and we did well. You see, almost every time I have crossed the border at Alexandria Bay someone gets arrested and is marched, handcuffed away from their vehicle into the Customs office. And yes, it happened again yesterday - just two lines over giving me a great view of what was going on. I wonder often what these people did or said to the customs agent to get five agents to descend upon their vehicle and them arrested. I knew right away what this guy did though. Dressed in a bright range tshirt that was way too long, navy shorts, black socks and sandals, he got arrested for extremely bad taste and lack of fashion sense. Seriously, his tshirt looked like the maternity tops we used to wear in the 70s.

Now, I wouldn't have found it as much fun if I had chosen that lane as the agents close it down for a while when they are interrogating the offender, and then they have to hand cuff the person, march them away with guns blazing, continue the search of the vehicle and then drive it away. It holds the line up at least 10 minutes, when we usually only take a minute or so per car. In telling Mr Knits about it, he wondered why I wasn't scared that there might be bullets flying. It never occurred to me. It all looked so television show/movie like I thought it was kind of fun.

As we were pulling away from our customs inspection which went like this: What's up ladies? We're going shopping. Any stores in particular JC Penny's and Burlington Coat Factory. Okay, have nice day. Maybe 15 seconds of detainment there. Anyway, as we were pulling away, 5 agents came out and surrounded another vehicle. Not a good sign for that driver. Busy day for the border guards.

Lynn and I had a great day shopping. I finally got the toner cartridges for our colour laser printer. They are 30 per cent less in Staples in the states. Crazy. And I got some reflective spray paint - I wanted some 5 years ago when it first came out, but couldn't find it. Thanks to Big Lots it was only $2! So, drive by my house one night, it may glow in the dark! The only reflective log cabin in Canada.  Lunch at Panera's is always great - free wifi, tasty salads and bread. Yum.

Coming back across the Canadian border is getting routine - hand the guard my commercial invoice, tell them I am doing m own clearing, and 15 minutes later after the paperwork is done, we're in Canada. Couldn't be easier. By the way, gas is the equivalent of 72 cents a litre there. Gotta like it.

Look for a blog post regarding "So you think you can swatch" later today. The contest is almost over! It ends this Saturday. And NO ONE has got the gauge specified by the yarn company. No one. And that's the importance of doing a swatch.
