Home Made Yarn!
Look what I made tonight – my first wee bit of spinning. Flora came and taught a class in drop spindling, and believe it or not, I actually was able to do it. Here’s my first attempt on the spindle. Notice the lumps and unspun bumps? It’s really not supposed to look like that, so I shall once again call this a design element. You see, there are more than three bumps, so I meant it to look like that. At least that’s what I will tell everyone.
Here it is plied and knit up. I think it’s pretty good for a first try.
So, after serving a late in the day customer (Hi, Alex!) it was back to the spindling. And maybe the break and chat with Alex helped, but I seemed to “get it”. Here’s the second spindle loaded.
And here’s a strand of the plied yarn. I am so impressed with my new skill.
My dear friend and customer Katie with her full spindle. Take note of the gorgeous scarf she needle felted this past week. She has such an incredible eye for colour and detail!
But, the shop is almost back to normal, and I’m looking forward to the workshops coming up. There is one scheduled for every Saturday from now until December. Check out the calendar to see if anything intrigues you. There is still room for one more participant in the spinning class, and for the sideways sock class, so if you were thinking of coming, let me know so I can book you in.
Now, I really must get to work and get this place ready for tomorrow. I hear there is a local reporter coming to cover the event!

Finally, here’s 28 grams of drop spindle glory. Now, what can I knit with approximately 8 yards of bright purple yarn?
If I didn’t have the Ottawa KnitNites group from Ravelry coming tomorrow, I’d be spindling tonight. But, there’s work to be done, and I’d better get doing it.
However, I did promise photos of the insulation nightmare:
There’s a hole in the ceiling, dear Liza, dear Liza.....

See that garbage bag in back of the table? There are three or four more full ones scattered around the shop. This is the floor after most of the insulation had been picked up.
