The blog has been quiet lately, but that doesn't mean nothing has been happening. It means lots has been happening and I haven't had ten minutes at work to blog. First, I have been rearranging the shop, and I truly like how it's looking. Now if I could only get it all tidied up, it would be just perfect. That's happening, but a little to slowly for my liking.
At night, I have been knitting several different projects. My current favourite is the sock pattern Skew from http://www.knitty.com/. I'm just about finished my second pair.
This pair is knit from Fortissimo Socka Mexiko Stretch ($13.95/100grams). Some wool, some cotton, and lots of stretch. I knit the socks on 3.25 mm needles and still got a gauge of 34 stitches to 4 inches as the yarn stretches around the needle while you're knitting, then relaxes once it's off the needles. I was quite pleased with the results. I knit this one exactly as the pattern was written. I know, you don't believe that! I made absolutely no changes whatsoever. To the first pair.
Now, I'm almost finished the second pair knit from some of my hand dyed 100% merino in a soft pink and olive colourway ($18/120 grams). I love how the colours are blending. The yarn reminds me of a conch shell I found once while I was in Florida.
And I did change the pattern this time. I made the sock about 2 inches longer in the cuff and knit a leaf edging instead of the ribbing.
I'm almost to the heel of the second sock, so should I behave and finish this project before moving on to new ones, it should be done tonight or tomorrow. Don't count on that though. I have already cast on a February Ladies Sweater, and I'm test knitting a pattern for a designer that has to be done soon.
Slowly but surely, I'm getting the gift shop area of the store finished. The scarves, bags and jewelry are arranged and displayed to my liking, and the shelving while looking bare is coming along fine. Although I ordered what I thought was too much at the gift show, only about half of what I ordered was delivered. It was a little disappointing, but I'll get over it and go out and get some more stuff. And that sounds like fun.
Mr Knits and I are feeling a little blue this week. Our beloved Aunt Norma passed away last Friday. Norma was so much fun - she visited us a few times up here and was such a pleasure to have around. She was a good knitter and quilter, and showed me a trick ot two. But her sense of humour is what sets her apart from the crowd. We last saw her at Thanksgiving, and as we were getting up from the table she started to point in a particular way that only people in our family understand. She just cracked us up! I'm so glad to have that as a final memory of her. She was smiling, a little devilishly, and pointing. God bless her.
