It's a new year!

2009 already. It seems like just a few months ago I was working on the Y2K fixes that were plaguing the company I worked for. That was over 9 years ago! Wow.

I hope everyone had a great holiday season. Our final "Christmas" dinner is being held tomorrow at John's sister's home and that will be the end of the celebrations for another year. I'll let you all know next week how my mother in law liked the hat I made her.

Our weekly Thursday knitting sessions will resume on January 15th at 1:30 until 3:30 or so. Please note that for February and March we will not be meeting on the second Thursday of the month as it conflicts with the Garden Club meetings. I can't wait to see everyone again.

So, this year at Log Cabin Yarns, look for monthly free workshops to continue. Our first one is on Stash Busting and Scrap busting. Let's get rid of that yarn that has been stored in tubs and bags and boxes for so long. I have several ideas to aid in this endeavour. Some of them I'm sure you've seen, but some you haven't. All will make useful, beautiful items for your home and family. The date for the workshop is Saturday January 24th from 11:00 am until 2 pm. Bring a light lunch and I will supply the beverages. It is true that sometimes the occasional beer or glass of wine is consumed as fortification at workshops. This one will be no different. Please remember you must register before the workshop. Space is limited and there are only a few spots left as I write this.

On the same day as the workshop, I am holding a Yarn Swap. Bring the yarn you don't want to knit (full balls/skeins) and if someone else has brought something in that interests you - take it. All yarn that hasn't found a new home by the end of the day will be given to Land O Lakes Community Services for their drop in group.

February's workshop will be on entrelac - my new favourite technique. What this workshop will really be is my practice teaching before I offer this as a regularly scheduled knitting lesson. So you'd be getting a free knitting lesson regularly costing you $40. The skill level required is advanced beginner. You must be able to read and understand patterns and knitting terms comfortably, cast on, decrease SSK and P2tog, bind off, pick up stitches, and increase stitches using M1 and KFB. I will not be teaching those techniques as part of the class. Date of the class is February 21st (Saturday) from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. You'll need to bring worsted weight self striping yarn (Paton's SWS, Noro Kureyon, Nashua Wooly Stripes, Marble Chunky) and appropriate needles.

March's workshop will be a different sort of format. No knitting as I will be giving you a tour of Ravelry. We'll have several computers available for you to look at this wonderful community on the web. Several yarn shops offer this class at a cost of $40 and up, but for you - it's free! The date is Saturday March 21st from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. This group will be limited to 6 participants, so register early to hold your spot. The link for Ravelry is http://www.ravelry.com/ Feel free to register before the class, and I'll help you find your way around it.

Lastly, instead of the regular "Knitting This Week" emails, I will be sending you all a link to this blog - I'll explain it all in this week's message. But it will enable you to keep up with what's going on at Log Cabin Yarns without having to access your email.

Take care everyone, and keep those needles clicking!
