So you think you got gauge....

Well, think again! 11 swatches are in, and no one has got the gauge specified on the ball band. Interestingly, all the swatches are knit at too loose a gauge too. I thought that there would be several loose swatches, several swatches too tight (like me) and some just about right.

The swatch in the upper left corner is the closest to gauge - it is just 1/4 stitch too loose but the row gauge is bang on. Blocking changes the stitch count as the yarn relaxes when wet, and then contracts a bit when dried. Some of these blocks need reblocking before the final measuring in August, and then we shall join them to make little blankies for the preemies at KGH's neonatal unit. who, by the way, absolutely loved and appreciated the hats we sent them last week!

There is a request from the hospital for Christmas themed hats - red and white, green and white, and red, white and green hats in the larger sizes. I have some soft fuzzy white yarn we can use for the hat brims - just come in and ask for it. The neonatal unit was  thrilled with the quality of the yarns you ladies used. Thanks so much!

Of course mine is still all mangled from having been jammed into a carboard tube with the needles to be mailed. I swear it was perfectly square after I blocked it!
