Now, don't go and faint on me

I know it may be a shock that here's another new post  - that'll make 4 in 5 days. Just for the record, I'm starting this post at 11:03 pm on Wednesday, let's see how long it takes to be published. My guess is around 1 am on Thursday.

First, I will not be in the shop tomorrow (Thursday April 1) as I'm heading out to celebrate Easter with my sons and daughter- in-law and my three beautiful, healthy and incredibly intelligent grandchildren. Now, that last comment reminds me of what I taught my little boys to say so many years ago when someone told them that they were such a smart little boy. I tenderly taught them to say, very politely. "Thank you, I take after my mommy." It was hysterical to see the person's reaction.

In the same vein, it used to really annoy me when a snotty McSnot Snot would point out that my three boys looked nothing like each other. The eldest had blond hair and a stocky build, the middle child had strawberry blond hair and a slight build and the youngest had dark hair and was built like his oldest brother. I used to try and explain how Ben looked like his father, Geoff looked like his grandfather and Matty looked like me. (Guess which one had the dark hair.) Explaining that got boring pretty quickly, so I started saying, "Of course they don't look alike. They all have different fathers." It really put the church ladies' knickers in a twist. And it was funny until one day, someone pointed out the boys' differences, and Geoff (who was about 4 at the time) said, "That's because we all have different fathers." Sort of backfired on me, didn't it.

Anyway, back to knitting....I just finished test knitting this little cardigan for Meghan Jones of littlenutmegproductions.blogspot.com  I put all the details on my project page on Ravelry.com, but the quick run down is I used 4 skeins of SRK Perth for the cardi and hat, and about 10 grams of each of 5 colours for the flowers. This is  the 12 month size and was a relatively quick knit. The flowers and finishing actually took more time than the knitting.

This is another test knit I recently completed - a lacy beach halter top. It also is on my Ravelry project page.

Project details - 2.25 skeins of Butterfly Super 10 on 5 mm needles. About 10 hours to knit. Easily memorized lace pattern and the strap shaping is quite elegant.

Speaking of test knitting - I'm looking for a few volunteers to test some of my designs. If you're interested, drop me a line, and I will send you the information.

I have been working on a scarf pattern - more like a recipe than a pattern, for an "Infinity Scarf". I finished the test scarf tonight, and hopefully will have it blocked and photographed this weekend. I am also working on the Stars And Stripes Mittens pattern. The Maple Leaf Hat and Mittens, and the Stars and Stripes Hat and mittens are now available in kit form for $10 each. Each kit contains sufficient yarn to complete and large adult earflap hat or large pair of mittens, and the pattern in a handle snap handled bag. The yarn is a 70%/30% blend of wool and soysilk that has a beautiful lustre. The hat and mittens are both knit on 4.5mm straight needles.

Have you heard of Google Wave? I just got my invitation today from a knitter blindmoondesigns on Ravelry. Thanks Kari! I signed up and have yet to watch the video on how to use it. Some of the designers use it for tracking progress with their test knitters. I'm thinking it might be a good way to stay in touch with my customers. If you want an invitation, let me know.

Watch out, Columbus, I'm good to go! I got into two of the classes I really wanted to take (one dyeing, one spinning) and my hotel arrangements have been made. The first time I went to TNNA, I went for 2 days. In 2006, it was 3. In 2007 and 2008 it was 4 days. I was gone 5 days in 2009. This year - it looks like I'll be away 7 days! I leave on Wednesday and will return on the following Tuesday, but won't be in the shop until the next day. That's the longest I've been away from the shop ever. In Columbus, I'll be hanging with my friends from Kertzer -  Alma, Josie, and Norman - I'm helping them set up on the day before the show and will help them tear down on the Monday the show ends. I'm glad I can help them as they have helped me so much in the past 5 and a half years.

Only 69 sleeps to the Eagles, and 71 to TNNA.
